Before moving in with Casa Mia Coliving, I had been living in Singapore for a couple years. I was looking to move closer to the city centre, preferably closer to work to avoid the early morning commute. I was excited to live in River Valley and cycle almost everywhere now (this has really helped me save money on transport). Singapore is very small so it doesn't take very long to travel anywhere, however it is great not having to worry about making the last train home anymore.
When I started browsing the likes of Facebook for room listings I wasn't expecting to find somewhere within my price range as I knew that central locations could come with a heftier price tag. But the flat I found with Casa Mia matched it perfectly, it was newly renovated and the team was extremely helpful in showing me around the rooms.
Almost instantly after moving into my new home, Singapore entered the first COVID-19 lockdown (aka “circuit breaker”) and I couldn't leave! As I was going to be locked inside for three months I was glad to be in a Casa Mia home. My room has a big window which fills my room with natural light and the location near the river provided a great space to get my daily steps in and go for evening runs. All in all the lockdown could have been a lot worse but living in a great home made this a lot more bearable.
Another thing I enjoy about living with Casa Mia is the social aspect (even during the national lockdowns!) Every month Casa Mia Coliving holds events such as wine tastings, cocktail making and previously walking tours (currently the events have moved to Zoom meetings, but nevertheless they are still engaging. I have attended a couple and it's been nice meeting other members of the Casa Mia community even if it's only virtually).
I have been staying here for about a year and a half now and have a month by month contract which suits me nicely. If my work situation changes I am not tied down to a long contract and can move easily, although I don't think that will be soon…
